Nick Nurse Foundation Funds Music Therapy at New Hope

February 10, 2025

Carroll, Iowa – New Hope is thrilled to announce a generous donation from the Nick Nurse Foundation, which will fully fund three years of music therapy services for individuals supported by the organization, at an approximate total cost of $16,500.

This gift will enable New Hope to contract with licensed music therapist Colleen Hecht, who will lead weekly group sessions designed to enrich the lives of participants through the power of music.

“Music therapy has a profound impact on people we serve, fostering emotional expression, social connection, and overall well-being,” said Angie Owen, New Hope Development Director. “Thanks to the Nick Nurse Foundation, we can provide this meaningful service to our clients for the next three years.”

Colleen Hecht, a highly qualified music therapist, comes to New Hope with a wealth of experience. Currently, she divides her time between providing music therapy for St. Anthony Hospice and a few select New Hope clients. Her sessions, offered weekly, will be tailored to classes for up to 10 individuals at a time, with support from New Hope staff.

“This partnership is an exciting step forward for New Hope,” Owen added. “Not only will it bring joy and therapeutic benefits to our clients, but it also creates opportunities for them to engage in creative experiences.”

The Nick Nurse Foundation focuses on empowering and enriching communities through music, sports, and literacy. Its support aligns perfectly with New Hope’s mission to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. In part, funds were raised through the first annual Nick Nurse Charity Invitational which was held over two days this past August at the Carroll National Golf Course, featuring stars of the Philadelphia 76ers, coaches, and former basketball players.
