2024 New Hope Charity Quilt Auction Binds Artistry and Philanthropy

April 1, 2024

Seldom in Carroll, Iowa, do you find an event which brings together the diverse crowd that gathers for the biennial New Hope Charity Quilt Auction. In its 30th year, this event has an unparalleled history of attracting area quilt artisans and local supporters of New Hope.

“This is a fun and unique event in many aspects,” explains Angie Owen, New Hope’s Director of Development. “The Charity Quilt Auction brings in a wide variety of quilters who’ve put an immense amount of work into the items they’ve donated. And then you have our New Hope supporters, who attend faithfully, bidding on these works of art that have been donated.”

Owen adds that it’s the atmosphere of the evening that underscores the event.

“What makes the Auction unique is most definitely the atmosphere. Yes, we have wonderful wines donated by Auen Distributing, but there’s truly a sense of support – and competitiveness – in the air,” adds Owen. The quilt auction truly isn’t your typical silent auction, with attendees and bidders going home with beautiful quilts to use or gift. There are also the eight or so donated cheesecakes and desserts that get bidders fired up.

And for those who don’t need the extra quilt, or calories? This year’s additional auction items include tickets to the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament, an Arcadia Meats Grilling Package, sporting event ticket packages for most area universities, a 50” Samsung television, and even a South African trip including accommodations for 6 days and nights.

But it’s the quilts that remain the focus of this event.

“We’ve received so many beautiful quilts this year, we’re looking forward to a wonderful auction,” says Jennifer Quigley, New Hope CEO. “This year we expect to have more than 100 quilts, including hand pieced, appliqued and even a few t-shirt quilts. The quilts we’ve received come in all sizes and shapes, from wall hangings and baby quilts all the way up to king sized. And there’s truly something for everyone, including Iowa, Iowa State and UNI Quilts, a Harley Davidson quilt, Crown Royal quilts, flannel, children’s and more of your traditional quilts.”

This year’s event is set for Saturday, April 13, at the Carrollton Inn in Carroll. Those interested in attending the 15th Biennial Charity Quilt Auction may still be able to purchase tickets for the afternoon quilt viewing, the auction itself, or the entire event including a social hour and dinner. To reserve your tickets, contact Samantha Wempe, Volunteer and Donor Relations Coordinator, at (712) 794-0901 or [email protected]. Dinner tickets are limited and selling quickly, only a few remain.

Quilt Auction information and item details can be found on New Hope’s Facebook page, under events.
