CARROLL, IOWA (Friday, April 15, 2022) – The night’s auction started off with a challenge from Jodie Jansen, New Hope’s Director of Development.
“This year, New Hope is celebrating 45 years of enriching the lives. Tonight, our goal is to raise $45,000 in honor of our anniversary and to continue supporting that important mission,” she exclaimed. And that is exactly what happened. And more.
New Hope’s 14th Biennial Charity Quilt Auction was originally scheduled for last year, 2021. However with COVID restrictions in place, a smaller, online version of the event was held instead. This year, with restrictions eased, it was “back to normal,” and the Charity Quilt Auction was held in an off-year, but in person.
“It was great to have everyone back together for this event. The Charity Quilt Auction is truly New Hope’s largest event, and I think it’s probably a favorite for the community as well,” remarked Jansen.
This year’s event featured more than 100 quilts and dozens of other items as well. Some items were kept for the online, silent auction, and others selected for the in-person, live auction. The day began with a quilt viewing in the afternoon. The main event was held in the evening, a dinner followed by the larger, in-person auction. For the event, auctioneer David Whitaker, of Whitaker Marketing Group, was on hand.
“We were very pleased with another sell-out event again. With approximately 200 in attendance, the energy in the room was evident as we sailed past our goal and raised more than $51,000 to support New Hope’s mission of enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities,” Jansen revealed. Auction highlights include a quilt which was reported to be nearly 200 years old and that sold for $1,200, a rare bottle of Rip Van Winkle bourbon which sold for $3,000, a Creighton Bluejays t-shirt quilt and basketball tickets that sold for $2,000, and an African photo safari trip that sold for $4,000.
This year’s event set a new record for funds raised during the Charity Quilt Auction, and a record for the highest selling quilt at $2,500.
Jansen says the next Biennial Charity Quilt Auction is slated for April 2024.
